Watch Agatha All Along for an incredible (mostly) female-led cast, strong character acting, an unexpected journey with all sorts of twists, turns, and trials, and some really big, out-of-left-field twists. Also: Patti LuPone tugging all the heartstrings.

Synopsis

Set after the events of WandaVision, Agatha Harkness recruits some unlikely allies on her quest to regain her former powers and uncover the secrets of the Darkhold.

Disclaimer: you don’t need to have watched WandaVision or know the entire Marvel universe to enjoy this show; important plot points are included/recapped!

Thoughts

Although I am someone who had all but given on up Marvel content after Avengers: Endgame (except any Thor movie with Taika Waititi at the helm, and I did enjoy WandaVision though, admittedly, forgot most of it), I decided to give Agatha All Along a chance because of my love for Kathryn Hahn. I am so glad I decided to commit to this show. Without giving away any spoilers, Agatha Harkness, the “Covenless Witch,” is approached by a young man who wants to walk the Witches Road. Although we don’t know much about the young man, or the other characters in the show, at first, we find out right away that the Witches Road will grant you whatever you wish for most in life if you can make it through the dangers and the series of trials to the end. In order to open the portal and walk the Witches Road, Agatha needs to assemble a coven of four other witches with different strengths.

What follows is an eight episode first season that is filled with danger, intrigue, blossoming female friendships, and a whole lot of fun. I laughed, I cried, and I immediately hoped for another season. Yes, this show is a Marvel show about superheroes and witches in a fantasy world, but although all of that may be true, the relationships within the world and the emotional lives of the various characters felt so real, genuine, and grounded as the season progressed that I found myself forgetting it was a Marvel show at all. Bravo to show creator Jac Schaeffer. I’m a recommitted Marvel fan for whatever she creates. Totally BingeReady.
