Watch Widow’s Bay for a spooky and spunky good time. Come for the thrills, but stay for the comedic twists and A-level acting that makes this show impossible to ignore.

Synopsis

A New England mayor trying to boost tourism on his island must navigate strange events, as well as friction from locals, suggesting that the island might, in fact, be cursed.

Thoughts

 I need to be extremely clear about something up front: I am a HUGE scaredy-cat. I’m talking hold-a-pillow-in-front-of-my-face or peer-at-the-screen-through-the-tiny-slits-between-my-fingers kind of scaredy-cat. I actively watch horror while plugging my ears because I can’t stand the noises that accompany the (surely predictable but no less terrifying) pop-out scary surprises, and though I am loathe to admit it, I have truly become my mother’s daughter and have started asking questions when I’m feeling scared.

All this to say, if I can handle Widow’s Bay’s moments of light horror and suspense, you can, too! The best part about the horror of the show? There’s ample comedic relief to balance out all the eeriness! So much comedy that I am hesitant to even call this a horror show…which is great because it’s classified as a horror comedy (meaning that I am not alone and my instincts haven’t failed me…yet…woo! Woowooowoowoowoo!).

Every episode of the 10 episode season is under an hour, and with season two confirmed, it’s time to climb aboard this ship and set sail into Widow’s Bay (but not too far if you were born on the island! IYKYK).

Matthew Rhys is spot-on as Mayor Tom Loftis, and as a longtime Rhys fan, he can do no wrong…the strength of this show, however, lies in the incredible performances of the entire cast. Kate O’Flynn and Dale Dickey as Patricia and Rosemary, respectively, make me laugh out loud in nearly every episode they’re in, and Stephen Root and Kevin Carroll add so much to every scene they inhabit that I can only imagine the magic that takes place on the show’s set.

Widow’s Bay is the show I’ve recommended to everyone I know that I just CANNOT stop talking about. And, dang, did episode four make me CACKLE out loud at a show harder than I have in quite some time. Widow’s Bay. Totally BingeReady.
